If you are under investigation or have been charged, it is critical that you do not speak with law enforcement before consulting an attorney. Statements made early in an investigation can significantly impact the direction of your case. Having legal guidance from the beginning ensures your rights are protected at every stage.
We also strongly advise speaking with an attorney before agreeing to any form of testing or questioning requested by investigators. These decisions can carry serious legal consequences and should be made with a full understanding of your rights and options.

STAY OFF SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY
Michigan Sex Offense Attorney
Under Michigan’s Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA), individuals convicted of certain offenses may be required to register as a sex offender. In some cases, registration may still be imposed even if the conviction is for a lesser offense, depending on the circumstances.
Registration can last for decades or even a lifetime and comes with strict reporting requirements. Failure to comply can result in additional felony charges.
Beyond legal penalties, registration can significantly affect your ability to find employment, secure housing, and maintain your reputation. Restrictions on where you can live and ongoing reporting obligations can impact nearly every aspect of daily life.
Because of these consequences, it is critical to approach these cases with a strong and informed defense strategy. Our firm understands the seriousness of these charges and works to pursue outcomes that avoid or minimize long-term consequences whenever possible.

What Determines If A Sex Crime Will Be Charged At A Felony Level Versus Misdemeanor In Michigan?
In Michigan, there are many different types of sex crimes, which we organize into four different degrees of criminal sexual conduct (CSC): 1st Degree, 2nd Degree, 3rd Degree, and 4th Degree. Technically, they are all felonies, though 4th Degree is listed as a low felony or high court misdemeanor, punishable by up to 2 years in prison. Each degree can be registerable, meaning you have to register as a sex offender depending on what state you’re in. In Michigan, the registration requirement can last for 25 years or life based on the CSC degree that you’re convicted of.
